Hello Everyone,
What an exciting week it has been with our celebration of Book Week. It has been wonderful to see all children engaging in the various activities organised over the course of the week. We started out the week with our whole assembly of Text to Sketch. Mr Kemp our incredible QBPS artist painted a wonderful art piece as the students listened to James and the Giant Peach written by Roald Dahl.
On Tuesday morning we had many of the characters that we have grown to love and cherish stepping out of their books and into our school. Students from Kindergarten to Year 6 dressed up as a story book character inspired by this year’s Book Week theme; READ, INSPIRE, GROW, and paraded class by class across the mini oval to much applause and appreciation from the audience. Thank you to our staff and families in making this wonderful annual event an experience to be remembered for our children.
We continued our week with many more activities which included a daily radio read, class posters gallery walk, reading with the principal, meet the author and our fantastic closing ceremony held by K3. Students also had the opportunity to participate in literacy and numeracy activities linked to this year’s Book Week theme throughout the week.
Parent and Child Hub – Play Group WA
We thank the local RAFFA village who have been very busy restoring equipment, furniture and resources for our Quinns Beach Child and Family Hub activities. On Friday the 11th of August a celebration morning tea was held with the representative from the Hobby Shop at the RAFFA Village and the Estate Manager, Julie Otremba the Activities Coordinator at our local Bunnings, who coordinated the donation of the paint and materials to restore the furniture. Brian Butterworth and Andrea Folkhard from the Rotary Club of Mindarie who have been the main facilitators of this project also attended. Our WA Labour member for Burns Beach, Mark Folkhard attended as well. It was a wonderful morning tea shared with our families that attend playgroup on Friday mornings. A big thank you to all involved and their dedication to making our parent and Child Hub a wonderful space for families to connect.
Daffodil Day
Our school community came together to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Council Australia – Daffodil Day. We raised an incredible $1376.20! A big thank you to Mrs Weck and all that were involved in helping organise Daffodil Day at Quinns Beach. Everyone’s generosity is greatly appreciated.
As we head into the second half of the term the weather is starting to warm up. Please ensure your child has a school hat to wear. We also have our sports coming up in Week 9 which the students have already been busy practicing for. We are all looking forward to coming together to compete, celebrate, and of course, have lots of fun on the day.
Jumps and Throws are scheduled for the 13th of September and our whole school faction carnival day on the 15th of September. More information will be sent out via DOJO.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
Kind regards,
Ms Kathryn Meyer
Principal
