Kaya, welcome to our latest news.
Congratulations to our interschool athletics team, who finished in FIRST place at the recent carnivals. Woo hoo! It was pleasing to see the manner in which our students succeeded. I visited the carnival and was overwhelmed with just how well they supported each other and their fellow competitors. Well done team. Thanks to Miss Cooper, Mrs Rees, Miss Boylan, Mr Gould and Miss Olivia for guiding the team before, during and after the carnivals. A reminder that Run Club is on every Monday and Friday morning for all students for the remainder of the year (not week 10). New students always welcome!
Student Enrolments
Currently we have 397 students. Next year, we are predicting a rise to approximately 420 students. If your children are not attending QBPS next year, please inform the school ASAP, as late changes can affect our class structures and staffing arrangements.
World Teachers Day
Our teachers are making a difference to the lives of young people every day. World Teachers’ Day 2022 is celebrated across Australia on Friday 28 October. It’s a chance to recognise and thank our teachers for the job they do. Despite the challenges of last year, teachers bring their best to work and continue to put their students first. Teachers play an important role in our community and we thank them for their passion and dedication to inspire children and young people.
As a school we take our hats off to our teachers and are saying thanks by providing them with a nice morning tea and a day off playground duties! All children are being provided with a “thank you” card to write something nice to their teacher. Please check their bag for it. It would be lovely if our parents and carers could also email or message a word of thanks to their children’s teachers.
Day for Daniel
A reminder that Friday is also ‘Day for Daniel’ and we encourage our students to wear RED for a gold coin donation. Activities will also occur and you may see your child’s work come home in their school bag. For more information, please check Class Dojo.
Parent and Carer Survey
Thank you to the 61 responses we have received so far to the school survey. I can see a further 21 responses have been started, but not yet completed. This week is your last chance to have your say and provide us with valuable feedback. Please check your emails for the link, or contact the front office who can re-send it.
Maadjat Faction Colour
Some parents, staff and P&C have previously commented on the Maadjat faction colour of white being too hard to keep clean and it isn’t a very exciting or appealing colour to jazz up for carnivals etc. Later this week you will receive an email with a survey link, requesting their response to a possible change in faction colour. This has been raised previously this year, however the timing wasn’t right.
I will be canvassing the Year 4 to 6 Maadjat students and parents, staff, School Board and the P&C.
Year 5 Student Leadership Day
We are preparing our Year 5 students for senior leadership roles next year by providing them with a day of leadership and teamwork activities at Ern Halliday today. They will participate in various activities and take some time to reflect on what makes a good leader, qualities expected from a leader and how to work successfully as part of a team.
Student Survey
All attending Year 5 and 6 students will participate in a similar survey tomorrow. This information will then be shared with the School Board and community.
Staffing Update
Mrs Naidoo from Year 2, K5 is taking Long Service Leave commencing Week 5. We wish her a lovely break and look forward to hearing about her holiday next year. Mr Gout will be relieving for the remainder of the year and is well known to students and the school.
School Review
Early in term 1 next year, our school will be reviewed by the Public School Accountability Directorate. This happens to all public schools. They will be viewing how our school is going and visiting to meet with many different stakeholders, including our School Board and available members of the P&C. A report is then written and provided to the school and public, outlining commendations and recommendations.
Evacuation Drill
On the 11th of November, the whole school will be participating in an evacuation drill to ensure that in the event of an actual incident, all staff and students are able to follow the plan and remain safe.
Finally, I look forward to seeing you at the assembly this Friday or in the near future.
Regards
Taylor Webb
