Principals Update Term 3 Week 10 2023

Hello Everyone,

Thank you to everyone for making this term a successful one. We have had many highlights, some of which include the Year 3-6 swimming lessons, cross country, Book Week and our faction carnival. It has been another term full of opportunities for our students and now as we finish off the last few days of term, it is a good time to reflect on what has gone well, what goals (big or small have been achieved) and what you are looking forward to doing next or hoping to achieve.

Reflecting is critical for social and emotional learning and wellbeing. It can be used as an important tool to empower children with, and when encouraged to reflect, children build skills such as questioning, memory investigating, explaining and consideration. It also provides them the opportunity to look for the positives, share appreciation through gratitude which can help develop happiness, empathy and resilience.

There are many reflective and gratitude conversation starters available online. Choosing one or two a day to ask with your child is a great way to develop reflection and gratitude habits.

For example:

What made you laugh or smile today?

What went well today?

What inspired you?

What challenges did you overcome?

How did you show kindness today?

Who did you thank today? Who thanked you?

Faction Carnival

Last week we held our Faction Carnival. Students displayed incredible perseverance and teamwork as they competed in both individual and team events. A big thank you to Mr Shallcross and Mrs Rees, all supporting staff and parent helpers that make this event possible. Congratulations to Monyin for winning the 2023 carnival and to all our runner up and champion girls and boys. Interschool Athletics will be held next term in Week 3. Event details will be posted on Dojo in the upcoming weeks.

Staffing Update

We welcome back Ms Ashleigh McCosh from her Internship with SSEND ASD Internship. Ms McCosh will continue 1 day a week working on her action research project. Ms Natasha Oswald will continue working in D4 alongside Ms McCosh.

Mrs Desiree Riley will be returning from leave. She will be working with Mrs Sharon Anthony in D3 on Thursdays.

Mrs Rebecca Leigh will be on maternity leave starting next term. We wish her all the best with the new arrival of her son. The Associate Principal and Learning Support Coordinator roles will be taken over by Mrs Tara Toonen (M-Thur) and Mr Matthew Shallcross (W).

Library and Buildings Update

The library will be open to classes for the start of next term. Mrs Pereira and Mrs Greco have very busy organising stock ready for our students and staff to borrow. We are very much looking forward to having this great space back and functioning for our school community.

The Department of Education have provided the school with a timeline of proposed works (roof structure repairs) before the end of term however, after recent discussions we are hoping to start works in November depending on whether the work can commence with students on site. Realistically, works will aim to be completed prior to the commencement of the new school year. I will continue to inform the school community as I receive updates and I thank everyone for their patience.

Have a wonderful break everyone and I’ll see you all next term on Monday the 9th of October.

Kind regards,

Ms Kathryn Meyer
Principal
